United Actions Stand Firm: End U.S. War and Aggression Now!

Many tens of thousands of people marched in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, New York and in more than 1,000 actions nationwide in all 50 states demanding: No Funds for War! All U.S. Troops Home Now! They stood united with actions worldwide opposing imperialist war and defending the rights of all.

In the U.S., the efforts by the Democrats in Congress to convince the people that the “best” they could hope for was another $100 billion for war, the green light to invade Iran and a possible end to the war by September 2008 utterly failed. Indeed, in every demonstration, large and small, whether in the major cities or small towns, south, west, north and east, the stand was one with the world’s people: the people here and worldwide will accept nothing less than an end to the war now and an end to all U.S. crimes against humanity.

Banner after banner denounced the war crimes against the people of Iraq, opposed the war crimes planned against Iran, denounced the Guatánamo concentration camp and demanded that it be closed and all torture ended, called for impeachment of President George W. Bush and Vice-President Dick Cheney for war crimes, and rejected the claims of the Democrats about what is possible. They showed the undaunted spirit of the people by confronting the effort of the ruling circles to sow fear and intimidation by proclaiming “Gitmo, Here We Come!” With youth and veterans in the forefront nationwide, and with the peoples together organizing to overcome many obstacles, including a major snowstorm on the east coast that delayed and canceled buses and flights into D.C., everyone together made clear that the solution to ending and preventing U.S. wars is clear: Bring All U.S. Troops Home Now!Don’t Buy Bush’s War –No Funds for War!

It is also becoming clear to many that the Democrat’s claim that the only choice possible in the 2008 elections is voting for them is just as much a lie and false choice as their bill to fund the Iraq War. What is coming to the fore is the necessity for an anti-war government, that represents the people by ending aggressive U.S. wars, refusing to feed the Pentagon war machine, and increasing funding to meet the rights of the peoples, here and worldwide. Whether participating in the encampment against Congress, occupying Congressional offices, marching against the Pentagon, organizing vigils, teach-ins, speak-outs, and more nationwide, people are making clear their desire for an end to U.S. crimes and for a government that represents this demand. This is the spirit and drive of the people, repeatedly represented in the November elections and the many hundreds of actions since then involving hundreds of thousands people representing hundreds of millions nationwide. Now is the time for an anti-war government and the actions March 17-18 again made clear it is possible, it can be done!
